Bolton Cares is both a special and unique organisation. As Bolton’s biggest care provider, we deliver a range of care and support services to the communities of Bolton, Salford and Wigan.

Established in 2016 as a Local Authority Trading Company, we have come a long way. Although a separate entity, we remain close partners with Bolton Council tackling some of the biggest challenges facing the sector together.
What you will be doing
As one of our NEDS you will be pivotal in helping us develop our new strategic direction and crucially ensuring we continue to be an outstanding provider of social care, a great employer and a core part of the communities of Bolton, Salford and Wigan
You will bring value and insight to the debate and provide independent oversight making a proactive contribution to the Board offering clear and balanced advice and guidance on strategic issues.

As a Non-Executive Director Your key responsibilities will include.
- Providing strategic direction
- Bringing communication, connections, partnerships and opportunities.
- Acting as an ambassador for the company externally
- Ensuring financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible
- Auditing the company accounts properly to its shareholders through true and fair actions
More widely, you’ll play an important role in pushing our agendas in the wider care sector. Maintaining links with key public and private sector stakeholders and actively supporting and representing Bolton Cares behind the scenes.
Your commitment to us
Term in office: A maximum of three terms of two years each.
Commitment: Attendance at six board meetings per year and attendance at events and meetings as and when appropriate. Non-Executive Directors are asked to commit 10 days per year.
Development and Induction: Training in Board governance and full induction into the business will be provided and any areas of development supported with appropriate guidance and training.
Remuneration: The roles are unremunerated. Reasonable expenses will be paid.
Location: All our meetings are held in in person, at our offices in Bolton or one of our sites, for example our new Jubilee Centre. Away days may be held elsewhere.
