We are proud to support #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek 13 – 19 May.

Looking after our mental health is as important as looking after our physical health and is one of the key pillars of our wellbeing strategy .

This year’s theme is “moving more for your mental health” so our Community Teams have been getting active and kickstarted the week with a mood enhancing Monday swim at our Jubilee pool. This was followed by counting steps on the walk around the local lake at Moses Gate Country Park

The beautiful weather on Tuesday was the perfect opportunity to spend time at the allotment planting in the sunshine – what better way to boost your mood!

Wednesday was volunteering at the Anderton Centre clearing pathways and cutting down trees and branches bringing together many aspects of wellbeing –  social connections, physical activity and giving back.

To wind down the team finished with a yoga session. Calming music, smiling faces and feelings of belonging. The perfect way to end the day.

We also used our ’buddy bench’ at the Jubilee Centre to highlight the importance of taking a breath and calm moments. The bench has a plaque which reads If you’re not feeling reet, take a seat, park your feet!’  It’s a favourite place where people can sit and reflect and have a friend join them if they feel they are struggling. No words needed, sometimes just a hug or a kind gesture make all the difference to your day.

Angela Walker our Head of People said.

“It’s been amazing seeing our teams and the people we support staying active and boosting their mental health during the week. By having a 10 minute brisk walk or just enjoying quiet reflection on our ‘buddy bench’ we can improve our mood, and enhance our overall wellbeing.”
