Our Life Opportunities Community hub is part of a volunteer group called Friends of Harwood and Longsight Park. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers the park has been awarded the much coveted Community Green Flag Award which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

This means it is now officially one of the country’s best quality public parks.

The people we support attend the park every fortnight with other volunteers to help transform the once neglected park to make it a vital green space for the community to enjoy.

Everyone gets involved in conservation work to improve and protect UK mammal habitats for the otters, deer, foxes and badgers who live there, plant new trees, cultivate wildflowers, clean the park benches, tidy the children’s play area and picking litter.

Gemma Clark Community Team Leader said

“The people we support absolutely love our volunteering work; we’ve made so many new friends learned lots of new skills and are extremely proud of everything we have accomplished there. Helping the park achieve its green flag status once again makes us very happy, it’s an amazing achievement and a great project to be part of.

We will certainly continue to dig deep and keep buzzy to make sure the park continues to thrive and be one of the country’s best for many years to come.”
