Our Life Opportunities journey started in late 2022 when we entered into a partnership journey with Bolton Council to modernise and future proof our day services across the town.
One year on, we are continuing to engage the people we support and their families. We have raised their aspirations and supported them through co-production to access a range of exciting and inspiring activities that are blazing a trail across the borough.
Life Opportunities covers a range of services across all adult ages. Over the last 12 months we have been working with community groups forging strong partnerships and working with community assets to offer hydrotherapy, and rebound therapy as well as a whole range of specialist sensory activities. These aim to ensure that people have more choice and greater access to try out new activities and do what makes them happy and challenged. It is amazing what people have been getting up to with self-belief and courageously pushing the boundaries.
So far, some of the people we support have been rock climbing, had a session in the gym, been roller skating and loved the beach buggies at Fleetwood. They have also hit the water and been sailing, enjoyed trampolining, learned some new dance and gymnastic moves, cycling, cooking and computer skills. We mustn’t forget the bee keeping, reptile care and our hikes up to Rivington pike.
Lica Marchant Head of Service said.
“We are super proud of our journey so far. The people we support are enjoying greater lifestyle choices. Working side by side with people we are gathering the support and momentum from families, carers and professionals. Our staff mantra is ‘Don’t look back we’re not going that way.”
Like-minded people are loving what Bolton is doing with its Life Opportunities offer, so whatever your strengths, assets, abilities or interests, we have a place for you. We are seizing community and neighbourhood opportunities and building connections. Come and join us.
