At Bolton Cares, we take pride in finding opportunities for the people we support to experience new things and push themselves outside of their comfort zones – and a recent activity at our Salford Cares office allowed them to do just that!
The people we support, staff, and members of the local community had the chance to meet and learn about a range of exotic animals thanks to Torr’s Exotics Mobile Petting Zoo.
Animal assisted therapy is widely recognised for helping with issues such as anxiety, most commonly with dogs, cats or horses. However, owner and experienced veterinary nurse, Nathan Torr, saw an opportunity to introduce people to animals they wouldn’t have otherwise interacted with – reptiles.
He brought some of his impressive collection to the Salford Cares offices, including a snake, bearded dragon, red footed tortoise, gecko, giant snails and hissing cockroaches for visitors to touch and feel, and shared interesting facts about each of the species.
For the people we support, this was an incredible opportunity to put their bravery to the test, meeting new people and in many cases, touching and holding animals they’d never seen before. We hope everyone went home feeling proud of their achievements – we’re definitely proud of them!
Thank you to Nathan and the team at Torr’s Exotics Mobile Petting Zoo for the experience.
