Earlier this month, the Bolton Cares team took on Night Run Bolton for the second year in a row, as part of the IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton weekend. We entered a team of over 20 people to take part in the 5km run, including people we support and members of staff.
Our Life Opportunities Community Hub finished the race, which is organised by IRONMAN and Bolton Council last year. They set an ambitious but exciting challenge to complete a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 mile walk in the months leading up to the event, finishing the final 5km of the challenge at Night Run Bolton.
The team absolutely smashed last year’s challenge and after being inspired by their success, we rallied an even bigger team from across our services to take part in the course through Bolton town centre this year.
Lica Marchant, Head of Services for Life Opportunities, Shared Lives and Short Breaks, said: “We loved entering Night Run Bolton again this year – this time with an even bigger team!
“People we support and colleagues had an incredible time completing the race last year and the same can be said for this year – their achievements are testament to how far they want to go in pushing the boundaries and challenging perceptions, as well as themselves.
“The team has inspired everyone in the business to try something new and we’re incredibly proud of their efforts. Well done, everybody!”
The event
Night Run Bolton kicked off an incredible weekend of sold-out sport in the town centre, as up to 8,500 people took part in three exciting events.
Following Night Run, on Saturday was the turn of 5,000 children to take to the streets for the world’s biggest IRONKIDS.
Then on Sunday, 2,000 athletes took on the challenge of IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton, completing a 1.2-mile swim at Pennington Flash, followed by a 56-mile bike ride to Bolton town centre and a 13.1-mile run, before finishing along the iconic red carpet in Victoria Square.
Well done to everyone who took part in the incredible weekend of sport!
