Bolton Cares has been given two awards by Bury College for its exemplary work with apprentices.

The first award is an Apprenticeship Star Learner Award, presented to Jennifer Platt. For overcoming difficulties and challenges with her learning, for staying focused and not giving up when things got tough.

Jennifer is an Assistant Operations Manager for Salford Cares, one of Bolton Cares sister companies and has almost completed her Level 5 Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care course.

For the last two years, Jennifer has been doing the course one day a week at Bury College while working full time managing a number of supported living services in Salford as part of the management team at Salford Cares.

Jill Lockett Head of Service at Bolton Cares and Jennifer’s mentor said.

“Jennifer has faced some challenges over the last two years, but her incredible achievements are testament to her resilience, her determination to succeed, her commitment to the people she supports and her team.”

The second award is for Bolton Cares as a business and is an Apprenticeship Star Employer Award. This award acknowledges the fantastic work we do with young people locally to support them to complete apprenticeships.

The award was given for the way that Bolton Cares has innovatively continued to support and develop its apprentices, build their confidence and skills and help them thrive, despite the challenges and the disruption of the pandemic.

The award was also given for Bolton Cares’ collaborative and supportive working practices and the way it continuously tries to improve the learner’s experience

Bolton Cares currently has 12 apprentices working across all its services as well as in its head office in Bolton.

Sanjeet Bains the Managing Director of Bolton Cares said.

“I am extremely proud of Jennifer and of Salford and Bolton Cares’ record of achievement with apprentices. Nurturing, supporting and upskilling young, local talent so that they can develop their careers and achieve success in the challenging care sector is extremely important to us as a local business. Thank you for this award, it is for all our apprentices working hard to thrive”

Bolton, Salford and Wigan Cares works with several learning providers for its health and social care courses, Bury College is its current preferred provider.

Ellie Baker, Departmental Lead for Health & Dental Apprenticeships at Bury College, said.

“Jennifer showed dedication to her apprenticeship throughout the COVID pandemic and has overcome many challenges. She has supported other team members to achieve their apprenticeships whilst working on her own. Bolton Cares have always been very supportive and worked collaboratively to ensure the apprentices are supported. We are very proud to be able to recognise both Jennifer and Bolton Cares with an Apprenticeship Star Award.”
